Weekend Warriors?

Yesterday was Take Your Dog to Work Day. My workplace (understandably) does not participate in this event so Tahoe and Ashley spent the day, just like any other weekday, at home. However, based on the sleepy pooches that I am with this morning, I would say that those two must have occupied themselves just fine on their own... must have been a "ruff" day & night!

I hope that you are having an enjoyable and lazy Saturday morning too!

Also, wishing a happiest Birthday to my big brother!

An Update on Blue

Last month, I wrote a post about Blue, a dog in Elephant Butte, NM who inspired a community to come together and fight for his freedom...

Keep Blue Free

Update: Blue "supporters" circulated a petition to make Blue Dog the city's official mascot. Over 700 names were collected in less than 15 days. Last Wednesday, the city council met to discuss Blue's future. According to the NY Times, the council meeting drew a record crowd, filling the Council chambers and adjoining courtroom to capacity. After listening to over an hour of testimony - including suggestions to turn Blue into the city's mascot, granting him rights and protections not extended to the average dog - Mayor Kent granted Blue's guardians a temporary exemption to the leash law ordinance so they can install an electronic fence around the Elephant Butte General Store property (where Blue calls "home") and a large corner lot and boat repair shop. This will allow Blue to roam around without a leash while confining him to a safe area.

House Guest

This past weekend we hosted a house guest, Mei Mei...
Mei Mei is short. She has dark curly hair. She loves string cheese. She loves attention, and... she likes to bark.

Mei Mei

Mei Mei is a black poodle. She gets along well with Tahoe and Ashley. Mei Mei has stayed with us before while her family has been out of town. We always have a good time with her - I particularly enjoy watching how Tahoe and Ashley interact and play with her.

Thanks for a fun weekend and the puppy sleepover Mei Mei. We hope to see you again soon!

A Really Nice Walk

This afternoon, I took Tahoe and Ashley out for a walk. It was a really nice walk for two reasons: 1. The temperature was warm (mid-80's) but not too humid and 2. We did not encounter any other dogs during the walk. Now I'm not one to be anti-social but, if you know Tahoe and Ashley, you know that they can be a handful for one person to control. Ashley, in particular, gets really excited when we encounter other dogs on our walks.

Today was perfect. We did not see any other dogs on the walk and Tahoe and Ashley were very well-behaved. Let's hope the rest of the week goes just as smoothly.

Sometimes, I just like to look up

Looks like somebody else is enjoying the walk too

Sunday Morning Jo

I can't believe it has been an entire week since my last post! Sorry... with the nice summer weather that we've been having, I've been spending more time out of doors, leaving little time for blogging.

This morning, we took Tahoe and Ashley out for a walk to Starbucks. Once at Starbucks, Brian got a coffee, I got tea, and Tahoe and Ashley shared a cup of ice water. We enjoyed our drinks outside in the cool morning air.

Of course, Tahoe and Ashley attracted much attention as usual. One family approached us, wanting to meet Tahoe and Ashley because they had never seen a weimaraner in real life. They are considering getting a weimaraner and they asked a lot of questions about the breed and temperament.  Tahoe and Ashley were perfect angels during the conversation - hopefully, they weren't too misleading ; ). Another man approached us and talked to us about the challenges of traveling with dogs. He admitted that he has a dog and he never stays at a dog friendly hotel... he sneaks his dog into regular hotel rooms.

It's funny what people will share when they see Tahoe and Ashley.

Weekend Races

This weekend, I participated in two races...
On Saturday, I ran in the Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon and on Sunday, I rowed in the Stonewall Regatta XIX. I managed to PR in the half marathon and I had a great time rowing with DC Strokes at the regatta. Below are a few pictures from the races - Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
