Winter Promenade

Tahoe and Ashley were very happy to get outside and walk today.  The weather was warmer (mid-forties) and the wind was very light.  Ashley was especially happy to be out and about because, as it turns out, she really needed to do a bit of business as a result of last night's busy bone. (Eew!)

During our walk, we greeted and passed several different dogs. The funniest dog that we saw was a little brown yorkie that probably weighed no more than 5lbs. As we walked by, that dog squealed and made such bizarre noises - the little guy couldn't bark properly.  Those little dogs sure are crazy! I much rather prefer Tahoe and Ashley's size and assertive barking sounds.

  1. You seem to have a strong bias favoring large dogs over small dogs. I imagine all dog owners have a bias. I'm not a dog owner, but my preference would be medium sized, 40-70 lb dogs. I wonder however whether there's some prejudice at work here. Do we have preconceived notions such that we stereotype dogs based on their size? Perhaps you could do some quick internet research to find out what characteristics are common only to large, and only to small dogs, essentially to determine whether our existing stereotypes are well-founded or not. Your other readers may also be interested in this; as well as in why there may be differences (e.g., do owners encourage/discourage certain behaviors depending on dog size?). You might want to devote a future blog to this topic

  2. Dear Anon:
Thanks for your comment. You are absolutely correct in your assessment. I do have a bias. Three words will explain why: Small Dog Syndrome. I will devote a future post to this topic soon. Thanks for reading & bark on!
