A Trip to the Vet

For the past week, Tahoe has had a bump on his left front paw that has been bleeding off and on.  He's been licking it like crazy! I finally decided to make an appointment with the vet as the bump has not gone away.

The bump on Tahoe's leg

The appointment was at 5:30pm.  After waiting 15 minutes, the vet tech weighed Tahoe.  (He weighs 87.3 lbs - he's lost 6 lbs since May.)  After waiting for an additional hour, we finally saw the doctor... it took forever because there were two emergencies that came in while we were there. Once we made it to the exam room, the doctor looked at the bump and drew blood from it to view under a microscope to make sure that it wasn't cancerous cells.  The results came back negative. So, Tahoe was given an antibiotic ointment which I will need to apply twice a day.

While we were there, I also asked the doctor to look at Tahoe's eye.  His left eye has been somewhat red for a little over a month now.  He has a small growth under his eyelid which may be irritating his eye.  However, it's hard to tell what the exact cause of the irritation is so the doctor gave us an ointment to apply to Tahoe's eye three times a day for five days.  If the redness doesn't go away, we may need to think about getting the small growth removed at some point.

Tahoe was a very good boy during the whole visit.  In fact, I was the one getting restless and cranky from the long wait... receiving the $140 bill did not help.
